WWE Live show results
July 12, 2014
New York City at MSG
Report by Dan Goldman, PWTorch reader

The arena was mostly full; the floor was sold out, but the upper half of the top level was empty.

Byron Saxton started the show by introducing Rebecca Bleimer (sp?), who raised $4,000 for the Superstars for Kids charity. She was the guest timekeeper for the night.

Lots of “Yes!” chants rang out as the National Anthem opened the show. R-Truth came out to an impressive pop. There were A LOT of families with young kids in the crowd tonight. Lana came out next, introduced Rusev, and cut the usual promo with a little extra special NYC hate thrown in. Lots of boos and "USA!" chants.

(1) Rusev beat R-Truth via submission with The Accolade.

As Rusev waved the Russian flag in a seeming homage to Nikolai Volkoff, “We The People” chants rang out as Jack Swagger made his way to the ring with Zeb Colter, who carried an American flag. Zeb cut a pro-USA promo on Rusev and Lana, calling Rusev ‘Bullwinkle’ and challenged her to “let her dog go,” and he’ll do the same. There was some more flag-waiving and “We The People” chants before the bell rang.

(2) Rusev beat Jack Swagger. Rusev superkicked Swagger and put him in The Accolade for the win, even faster than he beat R-Truth!

Next up was a Divas tag team match. Big Pop for Nikki Bella when she came out first and almost as large a reaction from the MSG crowd for Natalya, who took her time making her way to the ring to interact with the crowd. Sasha Banks was out next and the mostly family-oriented crowd that does not watch NXT was unfamiliar with her or her partner tonight, Charlotte, who comes out to a techno version of her dad’s entrance music.

(3) Natalya & Nikki Bella beat Charlotte & Sasha Banks. Natalya was beat up for a while, but made the hot tag to Nikki. Nikki got the pin over Sasha Banks, then Natalya and Nikki celebrated with the guest timekeeper after the match.

Big pop for a Bo Dallas video as he entered the ring talking about memories of Madison Square Garden, specifically the N.Y. Rangers losing the Stanley Cup this year. Zach Ryder’s music hit and the crowd popped for the local boy! Bo even applauded his entrance!

(4) Bo Dallas beat Zack Ryder. The crowd responded with some "Let’s Go Ryder" and "Woo Woo Woo" chants, but Dallas won with the Bo-dog. After the match, he called for applause for Ryder.

Bray Wyatt cut in on the big screen and called out John Cena.

(5) WWE tag champions The Usos beat Goldust & Stardust & Ryback & Curtis Axel in a three-team match to retain the Tag Titles. There was a lot of comedy to open the match, including battling spinaroonis and dueling catchphrases. Tension between Ryback and Curtis Axel was teased, but they hugged it out. “We Want Stardust” chants from the crowd popped Cody as he waited for a tag on the outside, but the Usos got the win with a pin on Axel. After the match, the Usos and Dust Brothers shook hands/touched fingers a la ET with Stardust. All four took a bow on the ramp.

(6) U.S. champion Sheamus beat Alberto Del Rio to retain the U.S. Title. Del Rio entered the ring with a crutch and said he’s sorry that he has torn ligaments in his knee, but then he attacked Sheamus with the crutch, took off his leg brace, and hammered Sheamus with it as the bell rang. Dueling "Let's Go Sheamus / Sheamus Sucks" chants erupted from the crowd. Sheamus won with a Brogue Kick and the crowd went wild!

[Intermission]

Back from intermission, it’s a Fan’s Choice of Adam Rose vs. Fandango in a match or dance-off. Very few people Fandango'ed during Fandango's entrance and Rose was accompanied by eight Rosebuds (six men and two women). A dance-off won by a claimed vote of 59 to 41 percent. Fandango danced first to his entrance music, but as Adam Rose took his turn to dance to “Sexy and I Know It,” Fandango attacked. Rose countered and got the win.

After the match, Summer Rae came to the ring with Layla to confront Fandango. They had “a moment” together, teased a kiss, and danced with one another.

(8) Chris Jericho beat Randy Orton via submission. Orton was out next, then Jericho’s music hit. Huge pop for Jericho! Great superplex from Jericho and many nearfalls throughout the match. Jericho even threw in an homage to "Macho Man" Randy Savage with a double ax handle off the top rope. Later, Orton attempted the Punt to Jericho's head, but he ducked and put Orton in the Walls of Jericho. Orton tapped. This was easily the match of the night!

Main Event time. Ric Flair was introduced - without a robe - and he entered with Goldust, Mark Henry, Stardust, the Usos, Adam Rose, Great Khali, Zack Ryder, Sheamus, and R-Truth. Triple H then came out with Fandango, Titus O’Neil, Rybaxel, Bo Dallas, and Alberto Del Rio (six heels vs. ten babyface lumberjacks). Bray Wyatt entered, followed by John Cena to the largest ovation of the night. (This was not surprising given the number of families with small children in attendance. One kid decked out in full Cena gear, sitting in the row in front of me screamed, “I didn’t get dressed like this for you to lose!”)

(9) WWE champion John Cena beat Bray Wyatt in a Lumberjack match to retain the WWE Title. After Triple H puncheed Flair and got an AA for his troubles, the Lumberjacks all battled to the back. Triple H hit Cena with a Pedigree and Wyatt covered, but Flair made the save as Bray got serious color. Cena then got Wyatt to tap to the STF to end the show.

Biggest Pops:

(1) John Cena
(2) Nikki Bella
(3) Chris Jericho
(4) R-Truth
(5) Stardust

Biggest Heat:

(1) Bray Wyatt
(2) Bo Dallas
(3) Triple H
(4) Lana
(5) Fandango
