Binghamton, N.Y.
Report by VIP member Aaron Waymire
I attended the house show in Binghamton on Sunday night. Great crowd, I'd say around 90 percent full. There's no doubt this city loves their wrestling. The event lasted a little over two hours.
(1) Cody Rhodes & Goldust beat Ryback & Curtis Axel. I remember when Goldust first debuted and wrestled Marty Jannetty here. Now he's doing flips to the outside. Crazy. Good opening match with Ryback getting major heat. Rybaxel worked over Goldy most of the match before Cody came in and soon hit the Cross Rhodes on Axel for the win.
(2) The Great Khali beat Brodus Clay. The crowd seemed surprised to see Khali. Clay played the heel. Khali won with the Khali Chop to the head. Pretty bland match.
(3) Naomi (w/Cameron) beat Divas champion A.J. Lee (w/Tamina) in a non-title match. It was originally announced as a match for the Divas Championship, until we all heard "EXCUSE ME!" Vickie Guerrero then changed it to non-title and laughed her way out of the ring. Naomi was still sporting her eye protection. Hopefully these two get a feud going because it was an entertaining match. Naomi won with the Rear View.
(4) Big Show beat Christian. Before the match, Christian played the perfect heel role by telling the crowd how embarrassed they should be for the reception they gave him. Funny stuff! He threatened to leave, but then Big Show came out. About the only offense Christian got in was working over Show's leg, and a DDT at one point. The end came when Christian came running at Show with a chair, Show slapped it away, and then hit the WMD for the pin.
(5) IC champion Big E. beat Cesaro and Kofi Kingston in a Triple Threat match to retain the Intercontinental Championship. Cesaro tried to get Kofi on his side to start the match, but that didn't work. Soon Kofi and Big E. were arguing, and everyone was on their own. Good match with the inevitable one wrestler on the outside recovering while the other two went at it in the ring. The finish came when Cesaro was going for the Neutralizer on Big E., then Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise on Cesaro instead. Big E. then creamed Kofi and gave Cesaro the Big Ending for the win.
(6) Los Matadores & Sin Cara beat 3MB in a six-man tag. Los Matadores were very over because of El Torito. The kids I was near loved the little guy. Good athleticism by both teams. Sin Cara hit the Senton Bomb on one the members (I believe Jinder Mahal) to pick up the win.
(7) Daniel Bryan beat Kane in a Steel Cage main event. Bryan was very over, as usual. He wore lots of tape on his shoulder to sell the Raw beat down from Triple H, which was replayed on the big screens as the cage was being set up. Pretty good match that was more physical than anything. Good sequence at one point where each man traded spots trying to escape through the door, only to be yanked back, and then the other would try. Bryan won with the running knee. He slapped hands around ringside, left, and that was all she wrote on this night.
Overall, it was a fun night with a good pace to the action. The only real breaks were the intermission half-way through and to set up the cage, but even those were brief. Binghamton hasn't had a TV taping since Kurt Angle was drafted to Raw in 2005 (right after his classic WrestleMania 21 match with Shawn Michaels), I would imagine because the Broome County Arena is just too small. But, if they ever did have one again, I can promise it would be packed and loud. We'll see.
