PCW "Road to Glory" Night 2 results
March 1, 2014
Preston, England
Report by Michael Delaney, PWTorch reader
The big news from the Preston City Wrestling show was Lionheart hurting his neck taking the Styles Clash from A.J. Styles in the main event. The latest update is Lionheart's neck is broken in two places, but he has movement in all limbs.
(1) Joey Hayes beat Dave Rayne and Robbie X. The match was for the #boom title. Dave Rayne retained the title on rules created by himself. A future title match vs. The Hurricane was announced for May 30.
(2) Chris Masters beat Chris Hero to progress to the "Road to Glory" final. This was Hero's best match of the weekend by a long way. Slower segments of match got to show personality from both guys. Hero slid out of the Masterlock straight into a pin for the three count.
(3) Dave Mastiff beat Kris Travis to progress to the "Road to Glory" final. Super hot crowd and wrestling, which deserved the crowd reactions
(4) ROH TV champion Tomasso Ciampa beat Martin Kirby to retain the ROH TV title. Not sure if most of the crowd knew who Ciampa is. Slow build up followed by some big spots. Major respect from Ciampo to Kirby post-match, and standing ovation from crowd for Martin.
(5) Mike Bennett & Maria beat "Mad Man" Manson & Danny Hope. This started as a comedy segment/dance-off between Manson, Danny Hope, Bennett, and Maria. Fandango'ing by the crowd; the resulting tag match was won by Bennett and Maria. A good two or three minutes of the match was in slow motion accompanied by slow chanting.
(6) Team Single beat Battle Squad Awesome. Very one-sided. Red Dragon was announced for May 30-31 via video promo.
(7) Papa Shango defeated Bubblegum in a squash. Huge pop for Shango. Charles Wright was a hit with the fans with both gimmicks this weekend.
(8) Chris Masters beat Dave Mastiff to win the Road to Glory tournament and earn a future PCW Title match. The crowd was split evenly early on, but favoured the local Mastiff as the match went on. Masters accidentally smashed the trophy while getting out of the ring.
(9) Lionheart beat A.J. Styles to retain the PCW Title. Biggest pop of weekend for A.J. The match spent a long time in the crowd, where many people couldn't see. Worthy main event from what was seen. Post-match, Styles delivered a Styles Clash, resulting in a very nasty-looking neck injury.
