Heroes & Legends show report
March 23, 2013
Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Report by Jaybug, PWTorch reader
Bret Hart & Ted DiBiase were Main Package autographs/greets.
Others in the package and signed separately were Demolition, Jimmy Snuka, Hacksaw, Tatanka, Brutus Beefcake, and Virgil. Snuka was $15 for autographs. Someone told me $30 was Virgil's asking price. A bit much for him.
Other advertised that were brought by other vendors were Colt Cabana, Ron Simmons, Rosey, Brian Christopher, and Koko B. Ware.
We didn't get into the building until 10:45, but we also didnt get the VIP package, so the wait was okay by me. There were around 10-15 vendors selling DVDs, magazines, posters, etc.
I personally went for the show after the convention and Colt Cabana. Colt was awesome to talk to and very humble. I got a shirt, autograph, picture, and $5 Wrestling DVD all for 30. He didnt nickle & dime fans that asked for autographs on a shirt if you bought a shirt, which was awesome.
An added bonus during the show were matches. The matches were exciting, but the guys were definitely green. The best early match was Brad Lamen vs. Mr Fitness. Mr. Fitness stuck out the most because of his gimmick.
From what others said during the show, everyone was very nice to speak with. I got an autograph with Snuka and he was very personable and happy to meet fans. Hacksaw had the crowd shouting the whole time he was there. Almost everyone else was nice and excited to meet fans. From what I heard from many fans, Brian Christopher wasn't the nicest, but that's not suprising.
There was a 20-man battle royal at 6:00, which was entertaining, plus a performance by the band Downstait (they play Miz, Alex Riley WWE themes).
The main card started at 7:30. Matches were very good overall. Hacksaw had the crowd chanting "USA" and "Hooooo" like crazy. Roderick Street vs. Jake Omen vs. Sugar Dunkerton was very entertaining. Three-ways are not my favorite, but they had a great mix of comedy and awesome action. Dunkerton took photos with fans after the match.
Colt Cabana vs. Mark Vandy was something else. The crowd was split between the two, as Vandy is local to the company and had a lot of fans. We were chanting back & forth like crazy and both wrestlers ate it up a couple of times.
There was an intermission so fans could meet the legends one more time. After the break, the promoter Jayson Maples came out and thanked everyone for coming out. There was a raffle for a Bret Hart autographed painting. The fan who won came out and then Bret came out and talked to the crowd, which was cool. He thanked us for supporting independent wrestling.
After the break, there were 2 matches left. A Survivor Series-type five-man team match was first. Snuka, Demolition, and Virgil took on G.T. Vega, Bobby Steele, Kharn Alexander, Darrell Jackson, and "That Guy" PJB. All the heels worked the crowd real well, Demolition got a huge response, and everyone had new gear on from when they were signing except Virgil for some odd reason. Also, Beefcake was in gear during intermission, but no-showed the tag match. The bad guys ended up winning because Virgil quit and got paid off by GT Vega. Then, DiBiase came out and gave Virgil The Million Dollar Dream and Vega the same.
The Main event was Dru Skillz (HLW Champ) vs. Tatanka. Tatanka looked buff and definitely the best in-shape legend. The crowd was totally behind him, but Dru cheated to get the win.
Overall, a great show and great convention. They announced another show to be held on Saturday, August 17. So far announced are Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Hurricane Helms, and Chris Masters.
