WWE Raw house show results
May 11, 2012
Glens Falls, N.Y.
Report by Pat B., PWTorch reader

They said it was sold out, and it basically looked to be. The crowd was actually pretty hot, too (granted, this was my first live event, so I don't really have much in the way of frame of reference). The card pretty much played out how you'd expect.

(1) Brodus Clay beat JTG. JTG got in a little more offense than your average Clay squash.

(2) Zack Ryder beat Dean Ambrose via DQ after Ambrose removed the turnbuckle pad and whipped Ryder into it. No one really seemed to know who Dean Ambrose is, but I popped for him. I was bummed they didn't have him cut a promo.

After the match, Dolph Ziggler came out and delivered the Zig-Zag to Ryder while proclaiming himself the next WWE champion.

(3) Divas champion Layla beat Beth Phoenix to retain the Divas Title. Beth wasn't selling her injury tonight.

(4) U.S. champion Santino beat Jack Swagger to retain the United States Title. Swagger actually put on a pretty decent match with Santino. He got solid heel heat, too. He was wearing the American flag on his shoulders around the beginning of the match for some reason.

(5) WWE tag champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth beat Epico & Primo to retain the Tag Titles. This wasn't terribly memorable for me, except for the fact that it had two finishes. For the first, Primo hit the Backstabber on Truth, and the ref counted to three even though his foot was clearly on the ropes. They were announced as new tag champs and celebrated a bit before another ref pointed out the mistake and the match re-started to let the faces go over and retain their titles.

(6) Lord Tensai beat Tyson Kidd. Kidd got in a little more offense than your average Tensai squash.

(7) John Cena beat The Miz. Miz cut a pretty good promo before the match that devolved into him goading the audience into doing the "Yes!" chants. He did a fine job of getting heat and I have to say...Cena's a total professional. He seemed a little off his game, but it could just be that I was sensitive to it. There was a handful of "Let's Go Cena / Cena Sucks" chants, but they died out quickly as the crowd was pretty much completely behind him. The vast majority of the crowd was wearing Cena gear.

(8) WWE champion C.M. Punk beat Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE Title. Ziggler and Mason Ryan have some sort of alliance. I'm not sure if that was just for the show or if that's something that's going to end up on TV. The main event itself was pretty solid. It was probably as close to the match I wanted from them at the Royal Rumble that I'll ever get. Punk got a big reaction as well. I don't really know if it was bigger than Cena's, though.

Afterward, Punk posed with the belt and slapped hands with everyone up front. He briefly acknowledged my ROH t-shirt before cutting a promo on Glens Falls, the hometown of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and one of the great pro wrestling towns (which I'm sure he does everywhere, but it was nice nonetheless).

Pretty much the only thing close to announcements was when Justin Roberts was shilling items for sale before intermission.
