Ring of Honor show results
May 6, 2011
Dearborn, Mich.
Report by Kent Sinkler, PWTorch reader

The show was held at the very nice Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, which had a gym and multiple theaters and meeting rooms. One room featured the Council of Asian Pacific Americans's “Carnival of World Traditions” and the other featured Ring of Honor wrestling. The lobby certainly contained an interesting cross-section of society.

The World’s Greatest Tag Team did a meet-and-greet when the doors opened. Jim Cornette was also taking photographs and selling his Midnight Express book.

Attendance was estimated at 500. There was a pre-show match, which saw TD defeat Jeff Brooks. TD had a few supporters in the crowd.

All of the talent came out and surrounded the ring for a 10-bell salute and moment of silence for Larry Sweeney.

(1) Tomasso Ciampo defeated Homicide. Ciampo hit Homicide with Prince Nana’s crown for the finish. Afterward, Homicide delivered a Cop Killer on Ernesto Osiris. Prince Nana, Mia Yim, and Barrister RD Evans were very entertaining throughout.

(2) Michael Elgin (w/Truth Martini) defeated Andy “Right Leg” Ridge. I attended the “World’s Greatest” Dayton show and was down on Elgin. I thought he looked good in Dearborn. He was able to show off his power offense against Ridge.

Steve Corino came out and cut a promo about his ongoing attempt at recovery from rule-breaking. He noted that he had “Thumb in the bum” t-shirts for sale and that had he known being a good guy meant you got to sell merchandise; he would have done it a long time ago. He talked about Mike Bennett pushing him to break rules the last time they wrestled in N.Y. He also said that he has been working with another individual who was recently banished from ROH and that this person is also working on recovery. Kevin Steen? He went to call that individual out, but Mike Bennett came out instead. This led to the next match.

(3) “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett (w/Brutal Bob Evans) defeated Grizzly Redwood. This was a short match, which Bennett won with a piledriver. Afterward, Bennett took out Corino.

(4) The Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay) defeated The All Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus) in a First Blood match. This match was spilling everywhere to start. One ringside fan was wearing a white shirt that said “Jay, please bleed on me.” The Briscoe Brothers worked as heels throughout but were still over with the crowd. I wasn’t sure of the rules, because no one was tagging and the referee wasn’t counting anyone out. Eventually, tags were enforced. All four competitors once again went outside the ring. Kenny King threw Mark Briscoe into the security railing and he was bleeding like he had been shot in the head. However, the referee was looking at the other side of the ring where Jay Briscoe had bloodied Rhett Titus. The Briscoe Brothers were announced the winners. After the last few months, I’m not sure if Jay has any blood left. I’m glad his brother gave him a night off from bloodletting.

After the match, Kenny King went over All Night Express’s recent feud with the Briscoes and said he was sick of it. He managed to throw in a few unnecessary gay slurs before he challenged them to a Chicago Street Fight at Supercard of Honor on May 21. The Briscoes teased that they were coming back to fight them some more, but stopped just short of entering the ring, which drew massive heat. It was an intense match with action everywhere. Jay Briscoe’s ongoing commentary with the crowd throughout the match was hilarious.

Intermission. Right before Intermission ended, the Bravado Brothers (Harlem and Lance) came out and cut a promo about how they are an up-and-coming tag team. This led to them challenging and defeating 2 local guys, N8 Mattson & Rik Matrix.

(5) ROH TV champion “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels (w/Truth Martini) defeated Colt Cabana. Christopher Daniels cut a promo about reading the Book of Truth and how it changed his life. He said that Ring Of Honor hasn’t made a decision on the status of the television title yet, but he will continue to wear it because he is the only television star in ROH. This drew the obligatory negative TNA chant he was looking for. Colt Cabana entered and got a Happy Birthday chant. The match was a good mixture of humor and technicality and could have gone longer. During the match, a young fan yelled, “I love you, Colt!” Colt obviously responded with “Thanks, Buddy!” Daniels won with the Angel’s wings.

(6) ROH Tag Team Champions The World’s Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin) defeated Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly in a non-title match. Both teams showed off some mat wrestling to start. Haas and Benjamin threw their opponents around the ring for the majority of the match. O’Reilly eventually got the hot tag and cleaned house. O’Reilly and Cole hit a double Superkick on both members of the World’s Greatest Tag Team. Shelton hit paydirt on O’Reilly for the win. Afterwards, Haas and Benjamin congratulated Cole and O’Reilly on a good match.

(7) Roderick Strong (w/Truth Martini defeated El Generico in a No Disqualification match. This was a standout match. The match was in and out of the ring and featured two tables, a lot of chairs, and some great wrestling. When it seemed that Generico had the advantage, The House of Truth came to the ring and it basically turned into a handicap match. Generico eventually got them out of the ring and hit a dive from the ring to the outside to take them out of the match. Eventually, Roderick put Generico through a table for the pin. The new House of Truth looks pretty impressive with the addition of Daniels.

(8) The Kings Of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli) defeated The American Wolves (Davey Richards & ROH World Champion Eddie Edwards). When this comes out on DVD, try the Chris Hero roaring elbow drinking game. I was worried the match may be more angle than match teasing dissension between Davey and Eddie, but that was saved towards the end. The Kings of Wrestling looked strong throughout. Davey and Eddie made a run and had both members of KOW in simultaneous submission holds. Hero hit Eddie with a rolling elbow for the pin. This was a fantastic match. It was fast-paced, told multiple stories, and went over 20 minutes.

Afterward, Hagadorn got on the mic and taunted Eddie about the title match the following night. Eddie lashed out at Davey in the center of the ring. He asked if this was payback for Atlanta. Davey said they were brothers. Eddie told Davey that he isn’t his little brother and walked off. Davey looked like he was about to give the typical babyface ROH go home speech, but reconsidered and threw the mic down and angrily walked to the back.

The Kings vs. Wolves match slides easily into the top 5 wrestling matches of the year thus far. All of the matches and promos did a good job of advancing current storylines. This was a very fun show. The last five matches on the card are worth going out of your way to see on DVD.
