WWE Supershow house show results

Tyler, Tex.
Report by Trent Johnson, PWTorch reader
There was a good turnout at the Oil Palace despite competing head-to-head with the Texas vs. Oklahoma game in the area.
All of the wrestlers were extremely over and the crowd was very easy. They cheered the faces and booed the heels and they were hot for literally almost everything.
(1) U.S. champion Daniel Bryan beat The Miz via submission to retain the U.S. Title. Miz had the line of the night by complaining about wrestling in a barn the night before wrestling in the American Airlines Center at the Hell in a Cell PPV. Okay match, but I have to say Miz was by far the worst worker there under 300 lbs.
(2) Alberto Del Rio beat Chris Masters via submission. To sum up how great this crowd was, there was an actual "Chris Masters" chant going. The highlights of the match were Del Rio's ring announcer being there and Del Rio putting on the greatest armbar I have ever seen.
(3) Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler beat Kofi Kingston via pinfall to retain the IC Title. Good stuff, and about what you expect from these two after only wrestling each other for what seems to be the last six months. (They were by far the two best athletes on the show.) Dolph won with a roll-up while using the ropes for leverage.
(4) Kelly Kelly & Melina beat Layla & Alicia Fox. Seeing Kelly Kelly in a sea of thousands of wrestling fans is the most appropriate use of the cliched phrase "a diamond in the rough." You know the WWE fanbase has changed drastically in the PG era when the chant directed at Kelly has changed from a derogatory, ECW-style chant to "Smelly Kelly." Anyways, it was all right wrestling. The crowd was into it and didn't go for a bathroom break en masse like they used to for the standard women's match on the show. There was a big pop when Melina hit her finisher (without botching it).
(5) WWE champion Randy Orton beat Sheamus via pinfall to retain the WWE Title. Okay match, but it seemed like they were phoning it in the night before their big Hell in a Cell match on PPV. Orton won with the RKO to a HUGE pop.
[Intermission]
(6) WWE tag champions Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre beat Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith) to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Hart Dynasty came out without any continuity from what happened on Raw (more on that later). The biggest pops of the match were for Cody immediately covering his face any time someone would threaten a punch. Tyson worked his butt off and won the crowd over. The match had the same finish from Raw with Harry storming off after the loss.
(7) World Hvt. champion Kane beat Big Show to retain the World Title. Both guys were over huge as faces due to Kane being the only wrestler all night to get a special entrance, which consisted of them simply turning out the lights and putting a single red strobe light on him. (This was basically a barn they were wrestling in, after all.) The wrestlers went on auto-pilot for about eight minutes, but the crowd ate it up, so why not. The finish consisted of Kane distracting the referee, then hitting Show with the title belt followed by a chokeslam for the pin.
(8) John Cena & Edge & R-Truth & Evan Bourne beat Nexus (Wade Barrett & Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater & David Otunga w/Michael Tarver) in an eight-man tag match. Tarver played the part of manager at ringside. Truth came out to complete apathy and confusion due to his new theme song not catching on with the crowd yet. This match might officially signify Edge's face turn. Cena was phenomenal and was by far more over than anyone else (turning him would not be in WWE's best interest right now). He was performing like it was WrestleMania, not in a barn the night before a PPV. He showed more emotion and effort than anybody on the card, class act. The finish came when everyone hit their finishers to set up Bourne with Air Bourne for the pin in what could be Nexus's last match.
Overall, an all right show made better by a super-hot crowd that brought out the spirits and energy of all the wrestlers despite the venue. If you closed your eyes, you would think you were in a top-notch wrestling arena.
Biggest Pops
(1) John Cena
(2) Randy Orton
(3) Kane
Biggest Heat
(1) Nexus (since they were up against Cena)
(2) The Miz
