WWE Raw house show results
August 29, 2010
Newark, N.J. at the Prudential Center
Report by Mike Omansky, PWTorch reader

(1) John Morrison pinned Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse). (*)

(2) U.S. champion The Miz (w/Alex Riley) pinned Evan Bourne to retain the U.S. Title. Bourne came off the top rope, but Miz got his knees up to block and secure the win. (*)

(3) Mark Henry squashed William regal in 2:00. Regal started off selling that he was afraid to fight Henry, then Henry demolished him quickly.

(4) Yoshi Tatsu pinned Zack Ryder. Yoshi won with a flying leg off the top rope. Dud match. The crowd was quiet throughout.

At this point, a skit involving Chris Jericho brought the crowd to life and they were very hot for it. Jericho came out and claimed he won the match for Team Raw at Summerslam and John Cena should recognize that. He wanted Cena to come out and apologize for not giving him credit. Cena came out, but Sheamus attacked him out of nowhere. Jericho moved off to the side, Sheamus left, and Nexus ran down to beat down Jericho. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan then made the save for Jericho.

The Raw GM tone sounded and the announcer gave an announcement that due to the events, the main event will be Sheamus vs. John Cena in a cage for the WWE Title. Also, Orton & Jericho & Bryan vs. Nexus in a six-man tag match. (Note: The advertised main event was Sheamus vs. Orton in the cage and Cena was in the six-man tag. Essentially, Orton and Cena were swapped in their matches.)

(5) Chris Jericho & Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan beat Nexus (Wade Barrett & Justin Gabriel & Michael Tarver) when Jericho scored a submission victory with the Walls of Jericho. Hot match. Jericho was a total face for the match; he shook hands with Orton and Bryan afterward. (***)

(6) Divas champion Melina pinned Alicia Fox to retain the Women's Title. (*)

(7) WWE tag champions Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith) pinned the Usos to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Standard fare. (*)

(8) WWE champion Sheamus beat John Cena in a steel cage match to retain the WWE Title. This was an excellent cage match. Cena had a submission on Sheamus, but Nexus invaded through the cage and beat down Cena, allowing Sheamus to escape through the cage door to win. Prior to the interference, it was a well done match with nearfalls, both men getting in offense, and close calls of Sheamus trying to escape. (***)

Overall, an adequate show, but it was basically a two match show with the six-man tag and cage main event. The supporting matches seemed to be "going through the motions" type action.

The crowd was about two-thirds full and seats at top of the arena were blocked off.
