TNA house show report
November 14, 2009
Scranton, Pa. at the Ice Box Complex
Report by Greg Kurtz, Torch reader
The show started at 7:30 p.m. There were about 300 to 400 people there. We were third row back from ringside. The sound and lighting were not the greatest, but that may have been the building itself. The set was very low-key, not a lot to it. This was my first TNA event.
(1) Chris Sabin beatd Suicide. We missed the first few minutes of the match. The crowd was with Sabin. Heavy boos for Suicide, but I don't remember him turning heel on TV. In fact, didn't Homicide recently steal his gear? Anyways, after the match, Suicide was glaring at the crowd for more boos.
(2) Hamada beat Daffney. Chants of "Zombie Hot" for Daffney. Some stiff kicks from Hamada. Hamada did the "old school" walk on the ropes at one point. Hamada headbutted Daffney ten times in a row, which led to Daffney walking around after the match acting like she was dizzy and couldn't find her way to the back. Lots of nearfalls in this one.
(3) The Pope beat Global champion Eric Young. Heel heat everywhere for Young. He grabbed a mic from Jeremy Borash, attempted to talk, then got a new mic from JB that actually worked. Hard to hear him, but I think he was running down Pennsylvania and saying we weren't worthy of seeing him. Pope was OVER with the crowd. Lots of chants for him and cheers for every move he did. Pope won with the DDE. At one point, EY did the old Ric Flair move of falling forward on his face, which was funny.
[INTERMISSION]
JB was giving out backstage passes all night. The girl next to me got one. They had some DVDs, Sting masks, and t-shirts. Not sure how much that stuff was, but my program book was $20. JB informed us that after intermission, The Beautiful People were next.
(4) TNA Knockout champions Taylor Wilde & Sarita beat The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne). I missed the beginning of the BP ring entrance. The BPs grabbed a mic and were also ripping on the town. Velvet said something about Lacey Von Erich coming through the town and that it smelled very bad. No Lacey ringside. Taylor/Sarita grabbed the mic and said something, then attacked the BPs. At one point, Madison fell into the ref's arms, who looked around the crowd as he held her in his arms, asked for approval, then kissed her, then played to the crowd, which was kind of silly. After the match, the ref made the "call me" hand gesture to Madison, who acted like he was the most disgusting thing ever. Lots of glares to the crowd from Velvet as they left the ring.
(5) Amazing Red beat Homicide. Some chants of "He's Amazing" to Red throughout the match. Lots of heat for Homicide. The guy near me seemed to be pro-Homicide, though. Red won with a roll-up. After the match, Homicide grabbed a cooler and threatened to throw it at Security and JB. Instead, he drank half a bottle of water, and threw the rest down ringside. He then tried to climb the stage set, which didn't seem like a good idea. He climbed a little, then decided to leave as JB looked confused and frustrated with him.
(6) TNA World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles beat Daniels and Samoa Joe. JB said something before the match about Dixie Carter saying we shouldn't have to wait until Sunday night's PPV to see this match. Mixed reactions for Daniels and Joe. Good reaction for Styles. Daniels called out for Last Rites at one point on A.J., but A.J. heard him and broke free. Joe tried a Muscle Buster later on Styles, but didn't get it. Styles pinned Joe after a Pele Kick. Daniels and A.J. had some words in the ring after the match, then Daniels left.
JB then informed us that for $20 we could get our picture taken in the ring with A.J. He told JB to give out more backstage passes. Styles also said that was total nonstop action, which got TNA chants. JB asked if we could all go back to the backstage area. He then said the backstage area could come to us. Out walked Daniels, Taylor, Sarita, and Sabin. I got all of their autographs and JB's too. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event, and the wrestlers took the time to sign autographs, take pictures, and mingle. That is what impressed me, that they took the time to meet the fans and were pleasant and seemed to enjoy it. My only complaints were the campy stuff with the ref and Madison, too many nearfalls, and the fact that the main event was the same one they would be asking us to pay for the next night on PPV. Plus, the champ won the match, so no real reason to see it again on PPV. That being said, since it was my first TNA event, I have to consider it a success. I had a good time, and the other fans did as well.
Most heat: EY and Homicide Best Reactions: Pope and Styles. With the event over, I would definitely see TNA again. They made the fans feel welcome and I like that. Good action and a fun time overall. Thumbs Up!
